Although motivation is a perennial leadership topic, actually making it happen can be a challenge for leaders. For instance, I learned early on in my leadership walk that my attempts at motivation were short-lived (at best). The better idea was to seek to understand what it was that motivated my people then work to establish an environment for those intrinsic motives to be met.
In order to shed some light on what contributes to motivation and provide a guide for leaders, I took a deep dive into the academic literature on the subject. In the process, I uncovered a set of research-backed nuggets on motivation and put them into an infographic that you can use to help in your motivational efforts.
